2014 Castelletto Dolcetto
Best of Class Winner
Award winning wine! Our 2014 Castelletto Dolcetto was awarded Best of Class in the 2018 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, the largest American wine competition in the world.
Dolcetto is not commonly grown in California and when it is, it is usually produced in a soft, light style. We create a big, bold red in the Superiore style with firm tannin structure which has become very popular at Mount Palomar. The nose is of blackberry, pomegranate, cherimoya, Fuji apple, fennel, and sweet spice. The taste is bright but complex with sour cherry, green apple, cranberry, and dark plum. This wine will benefit from continued aging and is best if allowed to breathe before serving.
Extended aging in a mix of French and American barrels.
